As part of its operations, a large sub-regional organization manages a substantial fleet of vehicles and mobile assets spread across several territories.

Some of these resources regularly operate in remote areas with limited or no cellular coverage. In these environments, traditional geolocation solutions that rely solely on mobile networks quickly hit their limits.

The organization needed a system that could locate, track, and communicate with its mobile assets continuously — including in areas where GSM networks simply aren't available.

ALIBORA designed and deployed an integrated solution combining GPS trackers, Iridium satellite connectivity, two-way communication, and a centralized monitoring platform.

The challenge: overseeing scattered assets in hard-to-reach areas

The geographic spread of vehicles, equipment, and field teams was a major operational challenge.

In areas with adequate mobile coverage, traditional tracking solutions can typically transmit location data over cellular networks.

But once assets move into isolated territory, losing connectivity can cut off position transmission altogether, sharply reducing visibility for the supervision team.

This created several challenges:

ALIBORA's response: combining geolocation with satellite connectivity

To address this, ALIBORA built an architecture combining several complementary technologies.

The solution rests on GPS trackers installed on vehicles, data transmission via the Iridium satellite network, the necessary subscriptions, and a purpose-built centralized monitoring platform.

Together, these let the organization track its assets well beyond the limits of conventional cellular coverage.

GPS devices to locate assets in the field

ALIBORA supplied and installed GPS tracking devices on the relevant vehicles and other assets.

These devices regularly determine their position and generate the data needed to track their movements.

Geolocation is thus the first layer of the monitoring chain, providing the position of mobile resources and feeding the central platform with data gathered in the field.

Iridium for connectivity in remote areas

To get around the limits of cellular coverage, ALIBORA integrated the solution with the Iridium satellite network.

Satellite connectivity lets devices keep transmitting tracking data even when they're operating in areas with no ground network at all.

ALIBORA also arranged the associated communication subscriptions, delivering a fully operational, end-to-end solution.

This architecture provides connectivity continuity particularly well suited to missions carried out in remote or hard-to-reach territories.

A monitoring platform built to centralize operations

Beyond supplying the tracking equipment, ALIBORA developed a dedicated monitoring platform to centralize information coming in from the different assets.

From a single interface, managers can track the position of mobile resources, view their movements, and get a consolidated picture of the fleet.

The platform turns raw position data from the field into information that's directly usable for supervising and coordinating operations.

It serves as the central hub of the system, giving a real-time operational view of the assets being tracked.

Geofencing for tighter control over operating zones

The platform also includes geofencing capabilities.

This technology makes it possible to define virtual geographic zones and attach rules to how assets move in relation to them.

Depending on operational needs, the organization can monitor when an asset enters a zone, leaves a defined perimeter, or is present in a specific location.

These mechanisms strengthen movement control and can also be used to trigger alerts or specific supervision processes.

Two-way communication with field teams

The solution isn't limited to reporting GPS positions.

Built-in two-way communication also makes it possible to exchange information with people and equipment in the field.

This capability matters most when teams are operating in areas where conventional means of communication are unavailable or unreliable.

It keeps an operational link open between the supervision team and the resources deployed on the ground, strengthening remote coordination.
